Cursor AI in Russia: Payment and Access

Questions about Cursor in Russia reduce to two: how to pay, and why it is not responding. These are different problems with different symptoms, and telling them apart is worth doing before cycling through settings.

What does not work directly

Three things often collapsed into one.

Installation. Works. The editor installs and runs locally with no regional checks.

Subscription payment. Declined with cards from Russian banks, on the payment system side.

Network access. Model requests go to foreign endpoints and may not get through. A separate problem with different symptoms.

How to tell them apart: an authorisation error or a declined payment is the first; a hanging request and a timeout is the second. The first is not fixed by settings; the second is a routing question.

Payment routes

The same as for any foreign service:

• A foreign card. The most direct route if you have one.
• A foreign company. Relevant if you already work through one.
• Your own provider key. The editor supports connecting one, so you pay the provider directly rather than a subscription. Paying the provider remains its own problem, but it often has more routes, including reseller platforms.

Worth knowing about the third: features tied to the editor server side may behave differently with your own key. Test on your own workload before building a process on it.

Risks worth understanding

Service terms. Every provider has terms of use, and access from a region where the service is not offered usually conflicts with them. The consequence is practical: the account can be closed and a balance is hard to recover.

Data. If you work with somebody else’s code, a reseller in the access chain is a third party that code passes through. Client contracts sometimes forbid exactly that, and it should be settled before work starts.

Dependence. Do not tie a working process to a single account and a single payment route. The fallback should exist before it is needed.

Alternatives
