Proxies for Multi-Accounting: Types and How to Choose

Why proxies matter in multi-accounting, how mobile, residential and datacentre addresses differ, how to choose for a task, and what to verify before starting work.

A proxy solves one specific problem: separating accounts by their network signal. It does not make work anonymous and does not prevent bans by itself, and understanding that boundary saves both money and accounts.

Why proxies matter in multi-accounting

The platform sees the address a request came from. Ten accounts arriving from one address makes the link obvious.

A proxy breaks that link: each account exits from its own address. Necessary but not sufficient - the platform has other ways to connect accounts:

  • Browser fingerprint. Identical system characteristics across ten profiles is as strong a signal as an identical address. Covered in its own guide: antidetect browsers.
  • Behaviour. Identical actions at identical times.
  • Data. Emails in one pattern, phones from one range, one payment card. This is the most common linking method, and no proxy helps with it.

The practical conclusion: a proxy is one third of the problem. The other two are environment isolation and discipline about data.

The types and how they differ

The difference comes down to where the address came from and how a platform perceives it.

Datacentre. Owned by hosting providers. Cheap, fast, easily identified as server addresses: the ranges are known and publicly labelled. Fine where address provenance is not checked.

Residential. Addresses of home internet providers. They look like ordinary users, cost more and run slower. Needed where datacentre addresses are filtered - see residential versus datacentre.

Mobile. Carrier addresses. The most expensive and the most trusted: thousands of real people sit behind one carrier address, so a platform cannot block it wholesale - see mobile proxies.

Separately, distinguish static from rotating. That is a mode rather than a type, and the choice matters more than the type does: proxy rotation.

Choosing for the task

TaskWhat you need
Accounts on a strict platformMobile or residential, static
Accounts on a lenient platformResidential, static
Scraping open dataDatacentre with rotation
Scraping behind protectionResidential with rotation
Checking results by regionResidential in the target geography
Internal tasks with no platformsDatacentre

The main selection mistake: using rotation for accounts. An account arriving from a new country daily looks more suspicious than one with a stable address. Rotation is for scraping, not for accounts.

The second: economising where the platform is strict. A cheap address that is filtered at the door costs more than an expensive one, because you also pay in lost accounts.

Verification before use

A purchased address should be checked before you put an account on it. At minimum:

  • Is it alive and what is the real speed.
  • Which country and city by geolocation data rather than the seller’s promise.
  • Are there leaks of your real address through WebRTC and DNS.
  • Is it on blocklists.
  • Is somebody else using it right now.

The full checklist is in checking proxies. This is the case where ten minutes of checking saves a week of investigation.

Where to go next

On the second third of the problem, environment isolation: the antidetect browsers guide and the article on proxies alongside profiles.

If the goal is working automation with correct proxy handling rather than an explanation, see the services page.

FAQ

Why are proxies needed when working with several accounts?

So the accounts are not linked by their exit address. A platform sees ten accounts arriving from one address and draws the obvious conclusion. A proxy solves that part of the problem and only that part: browser fingerprint and behaviour remain separate signals.

Which proxies are best for multi-accounting?

It depends on the platform and how strictly it treats addresses. Accounts need a stable address rather than rotation: an account logging in from a new country every day looks more suspicious than one with a single address. Scraping is the opposite - it wants rotation.

Are proxies enough to keep accounts from being banned?

No. A proxy covers only the network signal. Browser fingerprint, behaviour and data links remain: identical email patterns, phone ranges, payment details. Accounts are most often linked through the last of those, not through the address.
