Antidetect Browsers with Free Proxies: What Is Wrong With Them
Where free addresses come from, why they are worse than no proxy at all, what happens to your traffic, and the narrow cases where free is acceptable.

A free proxy inside an antidetect browser looks like a convenience and is almost always a problem. Here is why.
Where free addresses come from
Three sources, none of them harmless.
Open lists. Somebody else’s servers configured so that anyone can route through them. Usually an administrator’s mistake. Using such an address means using somebody else’s resource without permission.
Seller promotions. Limited access so you can try the product. An honest option, but the addresses are shared and restricted.
Traffic-exchange pools. You get access while somebody else’s traffic goes through your connection. Understand what you are giving: their requests leave from your address, and you answer for them.
Why it is worse than no proxy
Not merely “no better” but worse. The reasons:
The address is already blocklisted. A free address is used by dozens of people, some of them for exactly the activities that get addresses listed. The account arrives under suspicion before its first action.
The address is shared right now. Your account gets linked to strangers’ accounts on the same address. The very thing you bought an antidetect browser to prevent is undone by the free address.
The address is unstable. It disappears without warning. A session breaks mid-action, which looks suspicious from the platform side.
A stranger sees your traffic. Unencrypted data passes through their server. Logins, form contents and cookies are visible to the node owner.
The conclusion: pairing an antidetect browser with a free proxy is self-defeating. You carefully separate fingerprints and reunite the accounts through an address that also carries a bad history.
What happens to your traffic
Separately, because it is underestimated.
A proxy is an intermediary everything passes through. The node owner sees which addresses you contact and the contents of anything not protected by encryption. With modern sites the contents are usually encrypted, but the list of destinations is always visible.
Hence the rule: do not work with accounts holding money or personal data on a free address. Not because the owner is necessarily malicious but because you know nothing about them.
When free is acceptable
A narrow list:
- Testing the tool itself. Looking at the interface, creating a profile, confirming fingerprints differ.
- A one-off check of regional results where nothing is logged into or entered.
- Learning. Understanding the mechanics without spending money.
What these share: no accounts and no data.
What to do instead
A cheap datacentre address costs little and solves most of what is wrong with free ones: it is yours, stable, and has a known history. For tasks where server addresses are not filtered, that is enough - see residential versus datacentre.
If the task requires residential addresses, economising on them means losing accounts, which costs more.
What to check on any address before use, paid or not: checking proxies. How proxies work alongside profiles: proxies and IP. The overview is in the antidetect browsers guide.
FAQ
Can I work with free proxies?
For testing a tool, yes. For accounts, no. A free address is used by dozens of people simultaneously, is very likely already blocklisted, and the account arrives under suspicion before its first action. That is worse than working with no proxy at all.
Where do free proxies come from?
Three sources: open lists of somebody else misconfigured servers, promotional addresses from sellers, and pools where traffic is exchanged for access. In the first case you are using somebody else resource without permission; in the third you are paying with your own connection.
Are free proxies dangerous?
Yes, because all your unencrypted traffic passes through a stranger server whose owner you know nothing about. Logins and form data are visible to the node owner. Do not put an account holding money or personal data on such an address.
